Himadri-Hans Handloom” (HHH) is an initiative of The Hans Foundation, a non-profit organization, working in collaboration with the Government of Uttarakhand. They responsibly manufacture clothes and fabric. This Uttarakhand-based brand supports the livelihoods of rural women in Kumaon.
Purpose
TThe objectives are to make Uttarakhand's handloom and handcrafted textiles accessible to global markets, impart technical and design skills to rural women artisans of Kumaon thereby helping them enhance their indigenous skills, and finally, make local craft products that match the needs and aspirations of the new-age consumer. Their aim is to directly impact the lives of women weavers of Uttarakhand.
People
The primary objective of the brand is to promote local handicrafts and artworks that are symbols of the Himalayan cultural heritage. In so doing, they also create sustainable livelihood avenues for the marginalized craft communities who are living in some of the most remote areas of the Himalayas in India. These artisans are at the far end of the supply chain and yet have amazing traditional wisdom and skills. HHH intends to create a sustainable hub for the handloom products of the state and act as a robust link between primary producers and destined international markets. The aim is to strengthen traditional craft value chains thereby bringing the desired change in society.
Planet
It takes 132 million metric tons of coal to power all the plants that produce fabric for the world. In contrast, making handloom cloth does not need to consume even one piece of coal. Handloom is done without electricity or emissions. The carbon footprint of handloom is so small that it is practically immeasurable. It simply takes the creative energy and handwork of our talented artisans. Their manufacturing process follows strict ethical guidelines.
