Ithika – (which means Ethical in Greek) - is a small homegrown sustainable brand based in Calcutta that started with a simple goal: to create comfortable, high-quality clothing that is good for people and the planet.
Purpose
The brand believes in transparency and traceability and is proud to share the stories behind their clothes and the artisans who make them. Ithika Studio started their brand on a philosophy that revolves around the idea of minimalism and relaxed silhouettes. All of their products are handcrafted, and ethically manufactured. Their fabrics are sourced from the weavers of India. The brand aims to provide consumers with superlative quality which will last decades and still look timeless. They believe that fashion should be about more than just looking good. It should also be about feeling good - both about ourselves and the impact we have on the world around us.
People
They work with small-scale artisans and craftspeople who are paid fair wages and treated with respect. Ithika Studio believes in transparency and traceability, and they are proud to share the stories behind our clothes and the people who make them. They invest in the livelihoods of 9 workers who make it possible to bring their vision to life. Their team has 4 male members in the Stitching unit (including 1 Masterji and 3 Karigars), 1 male Dyer and his family, 3 women members for Hand-Finishing work, and 1 women member for quality check. The brand is also working with 2 hand-weaving clusters from the Kutch district in Gujarat
Planet
Ithika Studio creates apparels that are made using sustainable materials like organic cotton, hemp, linen, and others that are mostly naturally dyed or some of the azo-free dyes to avoid chemical use in the making of their collection. They are a made-to-order brand to minimize over-production. They use Plastic-free packaging. All the orders are wrapped inside a recycled cotton bag with a ‘Thank You note’ on plantable paper tags. The cotton bags are put inside a kraft-paper mailer and are 100% compostable.
