Econic, a locally established brand in Assam, is dedicated to sustainable fashion and lifestyle. It is co-founded, run, and managed by two sisters, Sanghamitra and Mayuri with a small team of 2 tailors. With the aim of caring for the people and the planet, Econic offers outfits manufactured from naturally dyed and printed handloom fabrics which guarantee socially and environmentally responsible manufacturing processes. They collect food, forest, and temple waste for dyeing and printing. Their outfits are not just eco-friendly but also a commitment of consistently superior quality supporting a millennia-old art of natural dyeing and handloom weaving to sustain itself.
Purpose
They are dedicated to reviving the ancient practices of natural dyeing and handloom weaving, ensuring their sustained existence, and raising awareness about the environmental impact of clothing production. Econic strives to offer continuous value-added products to its consumers by inspiring and encouraging the use of sustainable manufacturing processes. Their focus lies in exceptional design, innovation, quality, convenience, and interactive communication. They envision a future in fashion where they create and consume consciously, aiming at minimal or zero wastage.
People
Econic upholds a standard of providing fair wages and safe working conditions for their artisans and tailors, while also partnering with them to address their additional needs within the workshop. This commitment to fairness and respect is integral to their operational principles. They have established partnerships with ethical artisan communities such as IWA Inc (Indian Weavers Alliance Inc) in Assam, where they source their silk fabrics that are skillfully handwoven by artisans. Notably, every weaver within IWA Inc is a profit shareholder, guaranteeing them ethical, meaningful, and long-term employment. Additionally, Econic obtains its cotton fabrics from Anuprerna, a West Bengal-based handloom textile company that operates on a transparent and sustainable business model. Anuprerna's approach positively impacts the weaving community and environment by fostering livelihood creation and empowering artisans.
Planet
Econic ensures that each garment they create is one-of-a-kind, durable, and provides exceptional comfort. They achieve this by utilizing premium handloom fabrics made from natural fibers and dyed with natural dyes. Their dedicated team in Assam meticulously hand-dyes and stitches these fabrics, crafting them into beautiful garments. Econic exclusively relies on locally sourced natural biodegradable dyes, obtained from native flora in the region or repurposed from temple flower waste. Additionally, they ethically procure plant-based dyes from responsibly cultivated dye plants across the country.
