About Craft
Lippan art, also known as mud and mirror work, is a traditional art form originating from the Kutch region in Gujarat, India. This art has deep roots in the local communities, especially among the Rabari, Mutwa, and other tribal groups. Lippan art involves intricate patterns and designs made with a mixture of clay and camel dung, which is applied directly to walls or wooden boards. Once the base is set, small mirrors of various shapes are embedded into the mud, creating a unique aesthetic that catches and reflects light, adding a glimmering effect to the artwork.
