Gulab Tribe is a social enterprise with a heart for children and a passion for preserving India's rich cultural heritage. They work with artisans from Andhra Pradesh to create unique, handmade toys that inspire learning, exploration, and creativity. Each toy is carefully crafted using natural dyes and eco-friendly materials, sourced ethically to minimize our carbon footprint and promote sustainability. Gulab Tribe’s mission is to offer an alternative to mass-produced plastic toys and to protect the planet for future generations. Their toys are designed with both kids and the environment in mind.
Purpose
Gulab Tribe is a social enterprise that collaborates with local artisans to manufacture eco-friendly wooden toys. Their purpose is centered around generating a favorable influence on the environment and society, with a focus on sustainability, cultural preservation, and fair employment practices. Natural dyes and sustainably obtained wood are utilized by Gulab Tribe to craft toys that possess child safety, durability, renewability, and biodegradability. Their commitment to sustainability is reflected in their efforts to minimize waste and reduce their carbon footprint at every stage of production. They envision a world where children can engage with toys that are not only safe but also environmentally conscious, while simultaneously supporting fair and ethical employment for their artisans. Gulab Tribe derives inspiration from India's abundant cultural heritage and incorporates traditional art forms into their distinctive toy designs.
People
Handmade toys have the potential to impact various groups positively. Firstly, new-age parents and children looking for environmentally friendly alternatives to Chinese/machine-made plastic toys will benefit from the availability of these toys. This would lead to a decrease in plastic waste, making the environment cleaner and safer for everyone. Secondly, the artisans who create these toys benefit from regular employment and a steady source of income, which will help sustain their livelihoods. This is particularly important in areas where traditional crafts are being threatened by modernization and industrialization. Lastly, the project empowers artisans with new hope through design intervention, as the craft is moving towards obliteration due to outdated designs. This helps in preserving traditional crafts and promotes local culture and identity while generating opportunities for economic growth and development.
