Jaggery is a social enterprise that uses bags as a powerful tool to advance social equity, climate action, and economic resilience. As a women-led social enterprise located in Gurgaon that upcycles pre-consumer waste and post-industrial waste from Delhi NCR, they create handcraft purposeful products like functional bags, cases, home decor, and adventure gear.
Purpose
They specifically work with rescued car seat belts, old cargo belts, decommissioned army canvases, and punctured bouncy castles as raw materials. They are able to make an environmental and social impact with every product by using creative remanufacturing as a tool to generate economic resilience for underserved communities around the country by skilling them in the area of sustainable design and creating more circular jobs in India.
People
They work with women-empowered self-help groups, artisans, and waste collectors.
The typical progression for staff includes training in all levels of the Design Out of Waste Methodology (DOWM) including waste evaluation, sorting, cleaning, material understanding, pattern making, product concepts, and production followed by a quality inspection.
Planet
Jaggery works to minimize harmful pollution to the environment by upcycling waste. Diverting waste from landfills and applying the Material Driven Design Approach to mitigate climate change and environmental degradation.
