Kaizen the label was launched with two primary goals: to bridge the gap among craft communities & urban cultures and to use ""waste"" in fashion to create conscious fashion. Artisanal crafts are a strong part of the brand, but it is also environmentally conscious.
They use lesser-known eco-textiles like Eri silk and Hemp to work and collaborate with only transparent businesses and professionals. With every new collection, they have been improving the steps towards sustainability measures.
Purpose
Kaizen’s mission is to bridge gaps among craft communities & urban cultures. A slow fashion eco-conscious label, ‘Kaizen the label’ stands for all things fair, slow, and sustainable. Founded in Assam and working with local weavers and handloom organizations across the country they embrace the essence of Indian craftsmanship, eco-friendly elements, and conscious mindful living. KAIZEN means ‘continuous improvement’ or change for better in Japanese. Therefore, “Kaizen”, as the name suggests- is the design, creation & business philosophy of the label, and every product is carefully designed and crafted with love such that each piece is a handcrafted tale in itself!
People
Kaizen’s entire collection is stitched, embroidered, and finished at only certified fair trade organizations, ensuring good treatment and fair payments to all the makers. They create and/or source fabrics either directly from self-help groups & local artisans or from businesses & social entrepreneurs who are transparent about their supply chain.
They’ve been working with handloom artisans of Assam who mostly work with Eri Silk, fair trade Kantha artisans of West Bengal, and fair trade pattern masters & tailors of West Bengal & Maharashtra. Approximately, 90% of the artisans they work with are women.
Planet
They strive to coexist in harmony with nature, with every step they take. They use natural & organic fabrics and eco-friendly processes to make the products. Some of their favourite materials, Eri silk and Hemp, are beneficial to the environment, with low carbon impact, minimum water usage and help in building a healthy and greener eco-system. They have also taken active measures in making the packaging sustainable. They use their cutting room waste along with good quality unsold deadstock to create upcycled products. The clothing labels are made out of recycled organic cotton. They are also collecting scraps from like-minded organizations to be used creatively for multiple purposes like trims, appliques, etc in the products as well as packaging.
