People
Kutchi Carpet was founded and established by Prakash Siju from Bhujodi, a young generation weaver from the Marwada community of Kutch. Kutchi carpet works with the artisans of Bhujodi. Prakash’s great grandfather started carpet weaving in his family; Prakash is the 3rd generation keeping the legacy alive with modern innovation and new exploration, blending tradition with the new technique. It was the Meghwal community from Rajasthan that migrated to Kachchh, bringing with it the art of handloom weaving. Traditionally weavers used hand spun yarn provided by Rabari, a nomadic community herding sheep and goats wool was used for making veils, skirts, shawls and blankets. Farming communities like Ahirs cultivated kala cotton, which produced woven textiles for shoulder cloths and headgear.
