MANISH SAKSENA is a brand created for the love of handloom & saree as a dress form. The sarees endeavor to preserve the heritage signature with the slightest of twists to make them relevant for the contemporary woman but with absolute discretion & a very conscious attempt to not distort & simplify. Over simplification over time erodes the skill of the gifted artisans & the craft & its complexity is lost. Evolve not Distort.
Purpose
The purpose behind the brand is twofold. One and foremost is the passion & drive to keep the love of handloom sarees alive which was imbibed from his mothers wardrobe and personal style. At a more practical level, the drive is to bring transparency, professionalism, respect, empathy and a spirit of partnership with the weaving community. The brand, at every level, attempts to keep the classic saree as a dress form alive without resorting to forced modernity and continues to engage with weavers.
People
The brand engages on a continuous basis with weavers in the cluster of Kota, Kanchipuram, Maheshwar & Chanderi. They love to integrate different surface craft techniques through additional resources in form of self help groups & NGO. The impact is achieved in terms of bringing to the woman of today the pure essence of the craft and its possibilities on one hand and by engaging with the weavers to provide them work to retain their roots and signature, without falling prey to distorted modern demands.
Planet
The brand engages with only authentic craft forms that are indigenously created and practiced with only available resources and minimize the use of mechanical tools. The clusters are chosen basis their artistry and level of handwork. Some of the clusters like Kota still use pure zari only and use the original Jaala Naaka technique without succumbing to Jacquard & Dobby. The effort & kindness of handwork shines through the product that can be felt by the discerning.
