Created using handcrafted methods
One 'O' Eight Knots is an initiative by Happy Faces Foundation for first-generation women artisans. They are a social enterprise that aims to empower women artisans by providing them a platform where they can utilize their craft-based skills and create handmade home-decor products.
Purpose
They are committed to building confidence and self-sustenance among economically-vulnerable urban and rural artisans. They are dedicated to bringing the customers well-crafted, artisanal outcomes that are environmentally and socially sustainable. A team of creative artisans, passionate designers, enthusiastic makers, and hopeful dreamers trying to spread the love for handmade creations one knot at a time.
People
The strength of their workshop is the community of 150 women who come every day, from various parts of town. With no formal training in textile or crafts, their eagerness and enthusiasm build the foundation for the initial training process. They learn and practice the rhythmic, repetitive and meticulous activity of knotting, weaving, and stitching. This practice and the satisfaction of creating handmade products nurture a nascent feeling of empowerment that each of these women had but didn’t know how to use.
Planet
They ensure sustainable and responsible consumption of natural resources from procurement, production to packaging. Each of the urban artisans individually crafts a product and also participates in the regular functioning of the workshop by understanding the material, costs, and design methods.
