Purpose
RangSutra’s mission is to organize home-based rural artisans into small producer groups and provide them with skills training to create contemporary marketable designs for a globalized world. rangSutra remains of the people, for the people, by the people.
People
Artisans join rangSutra from villages and small towns across the country - including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Kashmir & Manipur. 2,000+ artisans are shareholders, and more than 80% are women. They endeavor to empower rural women with the opportunity to improve their craft, supplement their income, and work in equal and dignified conditions. The money they earn as shareholders and workers of the organization has given them the agency to have a say in their household decisions and to take ownership of their own lives.
Planet
The production of handmade items, by nature, is a slow and intricate one. rangSutra is currently exploring the possibility of using natural dyes and solar looms for weaving in the coming years. Additionally, in Bikaner, they also use ETP (Effluent Treatment Plant) water systems: an energy-saving plant that purifies wastewater. A small step made towards cleaner skies also includes solar power systems in their Bikaner office.
