Purpose
Driven by the desire to craft exquisite wooden products, Veer Singh utilises a diverse range of techniques, often inventing innovative methods. One of his distinctive approaches include blending wood with unconventional materials such as thread and metal, resulting in a wide array of unique products. He supplies to high end designer and retail stores and also participates in exhibitions. Veer Singh has earned recognition for his charming and cute wooden birds, and in addition to those, he crafts various other items like key chains, toys, coasters, wind chimes, and other home accessories.
People
Veer Singh acquired the art of woodcarving from his grandfather, making him the third successive generation to engage in this craft. This family comprises five members who actively participate in the creation of exquisite wooden products. Using Safeda, Bamboo, and Coconut woods, they skillfully carve these materials into beautiful pieces. The wood is soaked for five days before being meticulously carved, and crafting a single small bird typically takes approximately 1.5 - 2 hours.
Planet
Veer Singh meaningfully contributes to the planet by employing handmade techniques on the natural material - wood. This process begins with carefully crafting hand-cut wood pieces. He uses a jigsaw to create the initial shape, which is then refined and chiselled on a lathe. To add intricate patterns and designs, hot iron rods are skillfully used to etch the final wooden base. All the raw materials are sourced from Badarpur and brought to his workshop, where he skillfully transforms them into various products. They are then taken to his house and beautifully painted. All materials used being eco-friendly, his products contribute towards a reduced carbon footprint in the environment.
