Purpose
Whitewater was born out of a passion for eco-textiles and Indian crafts. With a vision for the future, whitewater wanted to transform the way parents and through them children learn and give back to society. Taking inspiration from Indian cultural heritage, they adopted a storytelling approach in our textiles so that products become an interactive tool that connects generations. In a world of overwhelming choices, they chose to work on a limited collection using only natural and organic raw materials. They design products in a manner that is better for the people and the planet.
People
Working with the vision of creating children's products with a sustainable approach, they procure organic cotton fabric from GOTS certified suppliers and develop unique designs with independent makers. To achieve the goal of economically empowering women, we work with Lambadi women embroiderers from Tamil Nadu and applique women artisans from Gujarat. The towels are handwoven by a co-operative in Andhra Pradesh while our hand-block prints, and wax prints are developed in collaboration with both rural and urban printers in Gujarat. The products are ethically stitched in small production units in West Bengal, Gujarat and Karnataka. Small batches ensure quality craftsmanship. The wooden toys are created in an MSME unit in Kolkata and fabric toys are crafted by women embroiders.
Planet
Whitewater products are created with care and respect to users, makers, and the environment. They make timeless designs in certified organic cotton keeping comfort, functionality, and durability in the focus. Since the products are gender-neutral, it increases their usability and makes it easier to pass on thus reducing use of new resources. They use water-based pigments or natural dyes for colouring- rendering it safe for use by babies. They incorporate the use of production waste at the design stage itself. They have kept packaging minimal yet interactive, ensuring that every element such as the handmade paper tags or cloth bags can be recycled. Whitewater hopes to inspire people to buy smaller but better.
