DIY Household Cleaners

A clean home helps to put the mind at ease, promote a healthy environment to work and play, and keep everyone in the household safe.  However, many cleaning products that are on the market today are full of harmful chemicals that are not safe for humans, pets, or the environment.  The good news is that you can make your own cleaning products with natural materials, saving you money while maintaining a clean home. Here are a few of our favorite simple recipes:

All-Purpose Cleaning Spray

This simple recipe is used to make an all-purpose spray cleaner for surfaces, messes and more!

Materials: one part white vinegar, one part water, 5 drops tea tree oil, 5 drops lemon essential oil, reusable spray bottle

Instructions: Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle and you’re good to go!

Laundry Detergent

This recipe really blew our minds! Using soap nuts, which release a natural soap called saponin, you can clean all your clothes naturally.

Ingredients: handful of soap nuts, ½ cup of baking soda, drawstring pouch

Instructions: put the soap nuts in the pouch and put in the washing machine with your laundry. Add the half cup of baking soda and start the wash cycle.  The soap nuts are reusable, just be sure to switch them out once they start to become discolored.

Dish Soap

This recipe works on all kinds of grease; if you don’t believe us, try it for yourself!

Ingredients: 1 part Dr Bronner’s Sal Suds, 1 part warm purified water, 1 part white distilled vinegar, and an optional few drops essential oil (lemon or tea tree work well)

Instructions: Combine all materials and store in a reusable container.  Those dirty dishes don’t stand a chance!
