Nonnie dolls are handmade by the incredibly talented tribal women in the Bastar district of Chhatisgarh. Nonnie is Chhattisgarhi nick name, used in affection, for young girls. The basic material for the dolls is yarn taken out of naturally growing Sabai grass. The dolls are dressed in the Baiga tribe's bright and colourful, cotton weave with the trademark checks and stripes. The Chhattisgarh Hastshilp Vikas Board is co-ordinating the making of these dolls with local tribal groups in Chhattisgarh. Karuna Chhattisgarh represents our beautiful symbiotic relationship with mother nature and the value inherent in embracing our civilization's roots.
