Description
A soft, caressing silk, Ahimsa/Eri silk is a natural silk that is non-violent in nature as it does not kill the silkworm in the process of fibre extraction. This saree derives its heavenly red colour from sapanwood dye and features and features motifs on the pallu. The texture of the saree is unlike mulberry silks and is often mistaken for linen or cotton. Our Ahimsa silk is extracted from silk cocoons that have been fed on leaves of the wild castor plants. After the silkworms emerge from the cocoons, the empty shells are boiled silk and left to air dry. The yarn is spun by hand and then dyed with natural materials such as indigo, turmeric, lac, etc.
