Cleaning your face after a long day or a night out is a must for keeping skin clear and healthy. However, using disposable makeup wipes is wasteful, especially as the chemical coated wipes that typically are wrapped in plastic all end up in the trash. You can make your own reusable makeup wipes that are good for the planet and good for your skin.
Materials for the cloth wipes:
- Washed terry cloth
- Washed cotton fabric
- Sewing needle and thread
- Clamping tool: Chip clips, paper clips, or clothespins
- Mason jar or glass jar for storage
Step 1: Cut the terry cloth and cotton fabric into 4 inch matching squares, and place one piece of each on top of the other.
Step 2: Place one of whichever clamping tool you prefer on each pair of squares. Sew around three of the edges to join, leaving a ¼ inch margin. On the last side, leave a 2 inch gap
Step 3: Turn the partially sewn cloth inside out, and sew the final gap shut. Iron the fully sewn wipe, and place in the mason jar.
Next, decide which solution you want to use for the makeup remover. There are many different options, check out some of our favorites here. Store the solution in a reusable glass container, adding some to the jar of wipes before each use. Be sure to wash the pads in between each use.
