Anushé Pirani is motivated by the challenge to question the conformist ideas of clothing. She created her contemporary namesake label in 2017. Nurturing and exploring the relationship between art, design, and fashion with ease the label’s versatile approach translates to both men’s and women’s wear effortlessly combining function with flair.

Purpose

At Anushé Pirani, the design, production, and retail processes are all conscious. They are creating slow clothing for mindful living. All the designs are made in their own production studio in Mumbai. They source the fabrics directly from the artisan weavers of India. They create contemporary designs using traditional Indian fabrics so as to promote the craft. Their design ecosystem is constantly looking to minimize waste and maximize the use of natural resources.

People

The design and production team is small and works from the studio. They are constantly trying to build a transparent and environmentally responsible workspace. They try to work with a different craft for each edit which in turn involves working with different artisans. They have worked with local men and women artisans from Pochampally Handloom Park, Telangana, where we sourced handwoven cotton ikat. They have also worked with artisans from Indhira Weavers Cooperative Society, Chennimalai, a ‘Handloom Town’ in the Erode district of Tamil Nadu. All the artisans and workers are paid fair wages.

Planet

At the studio, you’ll find them working with new and fresh ideas for every collection, which involves a lot of research and experimentation. They choose to produce a limited number of pieces and work toward zero waste with their own fabric scrap. Post-production scrap is collected and put to use to produce accessories. They are also looking to recycle this scrap into new handwoven fabrics that can be used for future collections. They also have plastic-free packaging.
