The Art of Dokra Craft
Not made for the moment - Made to carry culture forward
About artisan
Parul Bajoria is dedicated to creating meaningful opportunities for traditional artisans by bringing heritage crafts into the world of contemporary design and ecommerce. Through Miharu, founded in 2013, she collaborates with Dokra and Baluchari artisans in the suburbs of Kolkata to create jewellery, silk dupattas, and home décor that celebrate craftsmanship while remaining relevant to modern lifestyles. Rather than imposing design directions, Parul believes the artisans possess the deepest understanding of their craft and work closely within their individual styles and creative languages. Her approach is rooted in respect, collaboration, and preservation, helping artisan communities sustain their livelihoods while ensuring traditional techniques continue to evolve naturally. Through Miharu, she bridges heritage and contemporary living, allowing centuries-old crafts to find renewed appreciation among today’s audiences.
About Craft
Dokra is a 4,000-year-old craft tradition that embodies the beauty of slow, human-centered creation. Through the ancient lost-wax casting technique, skilled artisans transform wax, clay, and molten brass into unique forms that carry generations of inherited knowledge and artistry. At Miharu, this heritage craft is thoughtfully reimagined into contemporary jewellery and objects designed for modern everyday life. The brand works closely with Dokra artisans to preserve traditional techniques while creating meaningful opportunities for cultural continuity and sustainable livelihoods. Each handcrafted piece reflects patience, individuality, and the imperfections that make handmade objects deeply valuable in a world shaped by mass production. By blending heritage craftsmanship with modern design sensibilities, Miharu ensures that Dokra remains a living, evolving tradition one that continues to inspire, connect communities, and bring timeless artistry into contemporary spaces.
