Baka is a holistically sustainable jewelry brand. They consider many aspects of sustainability, including the social, the cultural, and the economic. Each of their slow-designed pieces is meticulously crafted by hand using sustainable materials.
Purpose
At Baka, their aim is to go beyond designing sustainable fashion and to create a sustainable world through good design. They look at social, economic, and cultural sustainability alongside the ecological factors because they believe that everything is interconnected and that everything counts. They work at the intersection of craft, design, and sustainability.
People
They work with craftspeople throughout India, especially women. Baka is a woman-owned business with the aim to empower women. All of the gemstones are carved at a woman-owned enterprise, and a majority of the studio team comprise women.
Planet
The materials used are renewable, recycled, and made with clean processes. They look at the production-to-consumption system from material to end-of-life to ensure it is entirely eco-friendly. Their packaging is also made from waste earmarked for landfills.
