Purpose
P1000 is a social enterprise engaged in weaving home and lifestyle products made by rural women from Murbad, (Thane, Maharashtra) with the aim of enhancing their social and economical status. They have skillfully perfected different weaves using 100% cotton hosiery fabric yarn which renders a distinct touch, feel & aesthetic to the resultant fabric. They have been able to manufacture a range of articles that include floor rugs, placemats, dining mats, laptop jackets, iPad and mobile pouches, clutch baskets, breadbaskets, and more. One of their special products is the lumbar support cushions which are filled with Raw Cotton - KAAPUS, that renders a natural stiffness to therapeutically support the lower back.
People
They work with a group of 10 women weavers. Their program is a twofold approach: the first month focuses on Training, Product Development, and Quality Control. The next module is one month of perfecting and churning out a saleable product that can be marketed on an international level. Along with this they also train the women in soft skills to help them deal with customer queries.
Planet
All the products are handwoven using upcycled textile waste. The products are indigenously designed and manufactured in-house and in line with their commitment to environmental preservation. They reuse-recycle and use 100% natural cotton thereby creating a sustainable lifestyle and supporting the Indian cotton farmers. They aim to create gainful employment to help rural women take their respectful and rightful place in society.
