Purpose
Only 27% of women in India are working, one of the lowest globally. WHE works to address this concern by creating employment opportunities for women. Founded in Dec 2015, the parent company Abira creations (Abira in Arabic means strong) aims to build an ecosystem for marginalized women to learn, grow & become financially independent. Every product created and crafted at WHE is a step towards uplifting these women artisans. WHE also made it their mission to offer customers more sustainable alternatives without compromising on quality, style & functionality.
So far, WHE’s work has resulted in 180+ Women empowered, 500+ Women trained, 15+ craft forms revived, 13+ crafts group empowered, 4000 kilos+ of waste upcycled.
People
WHE is an all-women organization from top management to artisans. It is committed to creating livelihood opportunities for women from marginalized communities at every stage of the supply chain. Most of the products are manufactured in-house by a full-time women workforce. By minimizing the use of machines in the manufacturing process, they are able to ensure employment for more women, be it in-house or artisanal clusters supported by WHE.
The profitability from every purchase is invested towards life-skill training of these women.
Planet
WHE’s constant endeavor is to experiment & explore newer earth-friendly raw materials, processes & systems to evolve into a zero waste company. They transform garment-cutting waste fabric, old papers, natural stones, recycled metals, natural fiber, lost art forms & techniques into sustainable yet trendy fashion & lifestyle products.
