Description
The shawl is woven and embroidered by women of the Dongria Kondh - a particularly vulnerable tribal group residing in the Niyamgiri hills of Rayagada. This design is primarily their village boundaries, houses, hills and agricultural fields. The colours are red, green, brown and yellow which is depiction of nature. Handmade by a vulnerable tribal group, every shawl is a little bit different from each other based on the way they make it. They portray ease and nature, each weave represents their surroundings and local folklore mythologies. The tribe has worn these shawls as their identities for generations.
