Several hundred years ago, the Lambadi tribes migrated from North Western India to down south for a living. They were a nomadic tribe who ended up settling down in different states of the country like Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamilnadu. Neela and Gammi, who had learned the art of embroidery from their grandmothers, passed on their knowledge to a small group of women, and together, they established the Porgai Artisans Association.
